Everglades Animal Coalition Rescues and Transports Hundreds of Abandoned Dogs and Cats to No-Kill Shelters in first quarter of 2023

Over sixty-six abandoned dogs and cats—including puppies and kittens—have been rescued from a life of misery by the Everglades Animal Coalition (EAC), a Hobe Sound-based consortium of non-profit organizations with animal welfare missions. The EAC funds local rescuers, medical care, boarding, and transports, to no-kill shelters in the Midwest and Northeast. From there, animals are quickly adopted into loving, safe, and forever homes.

Cold Noses Foundation (coldnosesfoundation.org) and The Pegasus Foundation (pegasusfoundation.org) are key funders of the EAC though Pets Broward, another non-profit, also provides support. Nala’s New Life Rescue and PoPo Pitbulls are two non-profits which EAC funds to rescue starving and ailing dogs and cats from Okeechobee, Homestead, Broward, and Dade counties, from overcrowded shelters as well as strays.

“Animals in these areas are rescued from shelters where their time is running out, or from the surrounding areas where they must combat tick borne illnesses, scorching sun and dehydration, predators, or being picked up as bait animals for dog fighters. These animals are suffering immensely, and we cannot leave them there to perish,” said Thalia Haseotes, President of Cold Noses Foundation.”

“At this hour, hundreds of dogs and cats await rescue in the Everglades, a dangerous place for domestic animals to live out their lives after being abandoned,” added Theresa Mitchell, Executive Director of The Pegasus Foundation.
