The Pegasus Foundation teams with MSPCA and Air Jamaica to help homeless animals in Jamaica
March 28, 2005 - The Pegasus Foundation partnered with the Massachusetts SPCA and Air Jamaica to ship a donation of 263 pounds of veterinary supplies to Animal House Jamaica.
Animal House Jamaica, one of only two private animal shelters in Jamaica, houses dogs and cats and provides assistance to farm animals on Jamaica’s northern coast. After being hit by Hurricane Ivan last fall, Animal House Jamaica put out an appeal for donated veterinary supplies. MSPCA’s Angell Animal Medical Center on Nantucket Island in Massachusetts heard the appeal and began collecting veterinary supplies.
During a site visit to Animal House Jamaica in January, the Pegasus Foundation learned that the supplies were waiting in Nantucket until arrangements could be made for shipping. Pegasus agreed to contact Air Jamaica to determine their interest in helping.
Upon hearing of the request, Air Jamaica offered to transport the fifteen boxes of donated veterinary supplies to the island. Once MSPCA-Nantucket staff transported the boxes to MSPCA’s Boston headquarters, Pegasus staff picked up the boxes and delivered them to Air Jamaica’s cargo office at Logan Airport on Friday, March 25.
Most of the costs of transport will be donated by Air Jamaica, with the Pegasus Foundation covering remaining shipping costs totaling just over $200.
