Protecting Mountain Lions
Mountain Lions or Cougars (Puma concolor) play an important role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. By preying on deer and elk, for instance, cougars help prevent wild herbivores from overgrazing vegetation. The ability of predators to keep prey in check benefits other animals that depend on intact plant communities, birds, and butterflies. The cougar is a wild cat found in many different habitats throughout North America, Central America and South America. With less than 100 cats living in the wild, many people consider the Florida panther, a cougar subspecies, critically endangered.
Pegasus Foundation is happy to support the efforts of WildFutures, a project of Earth Island Institute, to help promote the true nature and preservation of these Majestic Creatures. For more information on how you can help visit www.thesecretlifeofmountainlions.org
